Automotive leaf springs are also called blade springs.

Leaf spring: composed of multiple steel plates of different lengths and curvatures. After installation, the ends naturally bend upwards. When the impact force is transmitted from the road surface to the wheels, the steel plate will be deformed, which acts as cushioning and damping vibration. In the longitudinal arrangement, it also has the role of guiding force transfer. Most of the non-independent suspension uses leaf springs as elastic elements, which can eliminate guides and shock absorbers, and the structure is simple.


Leaf springs are the most widely used elastic element in automotive suspensions. It is an elastic beam with approximately equal strength, consisting of several alloy spring plates of equal width but unequal length (thickness can be equal or unequal).


When leaf springs are installed in the suspension of a car, the vertical load they bear is positive, all spring plates will be deformed and have a tendency to bend upward. At this point, the axles and racks are close to each other. When the axle is far away from the frame, the positive vertical load and deformation of the leaf spring will gradually decrease, and sometimes even reverse. The force on the main lifting lug is severe and weak. In order to improve the force condition of the main lifting lug, the end of the second lifting lug is usually bent into a lifting lug and wound around the outside of the main lifting lug, which is called winding lifting lug. In order for each workpiece to slide relative to each other during elastic deformation, a large gap is left between the main and secondary ears. In some suspensions, the ends of leaf springs are not made into rolling lugs, but other support attachment methods, such as rubber support pads, are used.


Flat rectangular steel plates have a curved shape. The chassis consists of multiple stacked springs. One end is mounted on the hanger with a pin, and the other end is attached to the main beam with lifting lugs so that the spring can be retracted. Currently suitable for medium and large vans.
